Overall Goals:

1. Introduce the students, who have basic or no prior knowledge of Spanish, to the basic vocabulary, grammatical rules, and functions necessary for discussing familiar topics like introducing people, talking about their family, and favourite sports, etc.
2. Provide students with various communicative activities for developing their listening, speaking and reading skills, and thus, enable them to function effectively in simple everyday situations.

Intended Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

• Carry on a simple conversation in Spanish

Methodology:

• Vocabulary activities
• Modelling and practising short conversations
• Pair and group activities
• Pronunciation activities
• Listening activities (listening for gist and for specific information)
• Reading activities (skimming and scanning tasks)
• Grammar activities and games

Required Material:

Students may choose to purchase either a digital book or a paper book, not both.
The purchase should only be made after the first class.

• Device: PC (Windows 11) or Mac OS 13 (Ventura or newer).
  Laptops or desktops are recommended for full functionality.

  Students may be able to participate using Chromebooks or tablets, but features may be limited.

• Internet Connection: Minimum – 10 Mbps download / 2 Mbps upload.
  Recommended – 25 Mbps download / 10 Mbps upload.

  Wired internet connection is preferred for stability.

• Audio & Video: Headphones or earbuds with a microphone.
  Webcam (built-in or external) is recommended.
