From Classroom to Collaboration: Dawson鈥檚 IPE Symposium Fosters Interdisciplinary Learning and Collective Care

蘑菇视频鈥檚 4^th annual Interprofessional Education (IPE) Symposium on Communication, conflict resolution, and collective care took place Friday, Oct. 17. This activity brought together all 216 students and 32 instructors/facilitators from the seven medical technology and social service disciplines. The day鈥檚 activities took place in a variety of venues in the Montreal Forum building, including a large cinema theatre.

Cultivating Hope in Higher Education: Dr. Jessica Riddell to Keynote Ped Day 2025

We are pleased to announce that Dr.聽Jessica Riddell聽will deliver the keynote address at Dawson鈥檚 upcoming聽Pedagogical Day聽on聽Nov. 7.

Dr. Riddell is a professor of Early Modern Literature in the English Department at聽Bishop鈥檚 University聽(Quebec, Canada) and holds the聽Stephen A. Jarislowsky Chair of Undergraduate Teaching Excellence. In this capacity, she focuses on systems-change in higher education that fosters human flourishing.

An award-winning educator and scholar, Dr. Riddell has published extensively on Shakespeare, experiential learning, and inclusive high-impact practices. Her 2023 book, Shakespeare鈥檚 Guide to Hope, Life, and Learning (University of Toronto Press), was nominated for the Gordon Book Prize. Her most recent work, Hope Circuits: Rewiring Universities and Other Systems for Human Flourishing聽(McGill-Queen鈥檚 University Press, 2024), continues her exploration of hope and transformation in education.

A very creative planning committee is working hard to make the party fun despite current challenges and want to know if you are willing to chip in $15 to make it happen.聽

Sustainability, Well-being for all

Help us plant a micro forest at Dawson on Oct. 30

The Office of Sustainability is inviting the Dawson Community to come to the west side of the campus (closer to Wood Avenue) on Thursday, Oct. 30 any time between 10 AM-12 PM to participate in the Micro Forest Dig-In.

Come help plant native species, trees, edible bushes, and wildflower seeds! All gloves and tools will be provided. This is a great way for staff to use our weekly well-being hour.聽

The Office of Sustainability鈥檚 proposal to Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) to create a micro forest secured a Campus Climate Micro-Grant.

Diana Rice of the Office of Sustainability described the project in the proposal: "We will plant an adapted form of a micro forest based on a Haudenosaunee land conservation and rehabilitation practices (approximately 30 feet x 40 feet) on the Dawson grounds between the Peace Garden and Wood Avenue to decrease greenhouse gases in the atmosphere of our urban campus, continue to enhance our Living Campus learning space by creating another microhabitat to be used in program curricula for competency attainment, assessment, and evaluation; decolonize our land to design a uniquely Haudenosaunee version of a micro forest."

蘑菇视频 teachers co-author new edition of Political Science textbook

Political Science teachers Vanessa Gordon and D贸nal Gill, both currently teaching at 蘑菇视频, have co-authored the newly released 7th edition of聽Politics, Power, and the Common Good: An Introduction to Political Science, published by Pearson Canada. This comprehensive textbook is being used at universities across Canada, and may be available in French in the future.聽

Students and teachers in the Social Change and Solidarity profile will be traveling on a solidarity delegation to Cuba this December. With the current fuel crisis and the enduring U.S. embargo, Cubans are facing a critical shortage of essential resources, especially in healthcare. Students and faculty are raising funds to bring much-needed medications聽 through Health Partners International of Canada (HPIC). Call for submissions to the Dawson English Journal

Each year聽The Dawson English Journal聽publishes student academic work in our online journal and in a beautiful, illustrated volume.

Your students can submit eligible work for consideration by the editorial committee at: Follow the instructions on the How to Submit Your Writing聽page. (All names and identifying information will be removed before the editors see the work.)

Bus and metro services to be impacted by strikes beginning Oct. 31

The Soci茅t茅 de transport de Montr茅al (STM) has announced a strike by maintenance workers from Friday, Oct. 31 to Friday, Nov. 28, inclusive, which will affect both metro and bus services on the island of Montreal.

Essential services will be maintained and service schedule details will be provided by the STM soon.

蘑菇视频 Teacher spoke at international panel in Italy

Nicola Martino, a teacher in Dawson鈥檚 Modern Languages Department, served as a guest speaker at an international panel discussion held on Oct. 11 in Matera, Italy. The event marked the official launch of Colobraro: Diario di Comunit脿, a book and research project exploring themes of identity, belonging, and migration in southern Italy.

Nicola contributed an article blending a personal story with reflections on immigration and cultural identity. The year-long project and its publication were coordinated by Concetta Sarlo and聽 Maria Sarlo, in collaboration with the ITALEA program鈥攁n initiative supported by Italy鈥檚 Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and funded through NextGenerationEU.

Mini waste bins now available

Looking for a tidy way to manage your workspace waste? Pick up a mini waste bin, perfect for compost, landfill or recycling. These handy bins, which are exclusively for Dawson employees (faculty and staff), are available on a first-come, first-served basis (one per person), so don鈥檛 wait! We are located in 4B.3A.

Each person is responsible for sorting their own waste and bringing it to the hallway waste sorting stations. These mini bins make it easier to stay organized and more mindful of the waste we produce, one small step toward a cleaner, more sustainable 蘑菇视频.
