What is ScienceFest?
ScienceFest is Dawson’s annual science fair celebrating knowledge, creativity, and a passion for learning science. The conference showcases work, projects, and activities from across the Science, Medical Studies and Engineering (SMSE) programs and in collaboration with other Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ initiatives. It is a lively festival of science featuring posters, installations, live demonstrations, challenges, and more!
Who can participate?
We encourage all students in any of the SMSE programs to get involved. If you were a student in an Integrative Project course, if you participated in an extracurricular club or activity, if you competed alone or in a team, or if you performed some other science research, then you likely have something to show at ScienceFest.
If you are a faculty member who has acted as a supervisor/mentor for science activities, we encourage you to inform your students of the opportunity to share their work.
You we also accept student volunteers to staff the ScienceFest space and to act as curators and help guide visitors. [Curators can request a confirmation of volunteer hours]
What can I present?
Being a typical science fair, the space is filled with a collection of kiosks showing posters, installations, and other creations. Visitors browse the exhibits at their own pace throughout the entire week, so it is expected that kiosks remain in place for the entire week and that they are interesting and engaging even if no member of the project is present.
Large demonstrations or live competitions can be requested but are subject to space limitations.
Oral presentations with an audience cannot be accommodated.
ScienceFest/SPACE Photography Competition
Inspired by the 2025/2026 SPACE theme of , students in all programs are invited to participate in the annual ScienceFest Photography Competition.
Winners will be chosen by a jury based on criteria like aesthetics, scientific value, and communication.
Who will be the winner this year?
Robotics Hackathon
The Dawson Robotics Hackathon is a collaborative, interdisciplinary event where students work in teams to find creative solutions to a themed challenge. No experience will be necessary.
The themed challenge is Arduino-based and will involve the construction of a micro-robot designed to perform a task. Student teams (minimum 2, maximum 4) will be provided with a kit of components and precise instructions. For students who are not part of a team at the time of registration, we will try to match you with other participants to form a team. Registration for the Robotics Hackathon is separate from the ScienceFest presenters.
